Fall New York outfits: what to wear in 60 degree weather

Admittedly, sixty degree weather is not that cold. We went to New York packing tons of big coats, scarfs and etcetera thinking our LA-native selves would need it — which all honestly went to waste. Most of the time we stayed in between the 50-70 degree zone, which is truly a blessing when it comes to the East Coast.

I’m writing this post in hopes that it can help save someone the trouble of overpacking, the way it could’ve helped me. You may think you need 3-4 jackets (one lightweight, one rain coat, one heavy duty just in case), but if the weather is averaging among the sixties, trust me you don’t need that much.

As you can see, you can literally wear a silk cami, pants and a light blazer. It does rain randomly and frequently in NY, but if it does start raining you can either hide away in the nearest restaurant or buy an umbrella. A raincoat wouldn’t be super practical in this kind of weather.

although I’m wearing heels here, I highly recommend wearing comfortable shoes, cause in NY you literally walk everywhere and I truly regretted my shoe choice

For the colder days, I recommend bringing a thick cardigan or a light puffer jacket. I wore these on the days where it hit closer to the fifties. It’s good to have layers so you can take your jacket off during the afternoon sun, but wear it in the morning/nighttime when the temp starts to dip.

My last tip is to bring one pair of comfy shoes at least. If you’re a blogger like me, wear the shoes you want to wear for the ‘fit,’ then bring an extra pair in your bag lol.

To be honest, I ended up buying these Nike sneakers on the second day because the shoes I was wearing were not cutting it. It’s different in Los Angeles where you can drive to a restaurant, and walk up in your heels and sit the whole time and not really be on your feet. We took the subway everywhere and walked a ton, so I literally walked straight into Nike and wore these out of the store. My LA feet can’t hang.

Anyways I hope this was helpful and saves you some trouble! And I also hear that this time of year there is actually foliage (unlike when I went a month ago), so now is the perfecttt time to go.
